Weekend Arabic Classes, starting February 10, 2007

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah,

We've decided to update this blog, since there is still a week left before our February 10, 2007 start-date for the weekend Arabic classes.

As in previous years, the program is being offered to students living in the greater Toronto area, first and foremost. The venue for the classes this year is at the York University Keele campus (Keele and Finch). Details of parking as well as the exact building and lecture hall etc. will be emailed to registered students later this week.

Timings are from 9.00 am until 12.00 noon on both Saturday and Sunday mornings with every fifth weekend off.

The same program is being offered online, live in real-time, for students not living in the Toronto area. Visit the following pages of our website for full details:

Weekend Toronto Arabic Classes Now Starting on 11th February 2006

Assalamu Alaikum,

The weekend Arabic classes in Toronto scheduled to be starting on the 4th February have now been rescheduled to start on 11th February 2006. The change in date is due to the person in charge being out of town... coupled with the plumbing problems they had in late December.

We sincerely apologise for the extremely short notice and for any inconvenience caused.

The classes will be commencing from 11th February 2006, Insha-Allah.

New Discounted Prices for Arabic Classes 2006!

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah,

Alhamdulillah, over the years since ShariahProgram.ca first began offering Arabic Courses for English-speaking students, through the fadhl (grace) of Allah Ta’ala and His immense Kindness and Mercy, we have gained much recognition and appreciation. Our enrolled members have all provided positive feedback on their studies under our institute. (See: testimonials) Many enthusiastic individuals have contacted us showing a keen interest in enrolling in one or another of our offered programs.

It is for this reason we have decided to offer our comprehensive Arabic Classes for a much lower fee in order to cater for a wider range of people. Alhamdulillah, after assessing our finances we are pleased to announce that we will be reducing the cost of two of our Arabic courses to a bare minimum. The new discounted fees are listed below:

1) Weekend Toronto Classes (starting Feb. 2006) – Original price $100/month, 10 months study. NEW DISCOUNTED PRICE: $40/month

2) Six Months Arabic Intensive (Feb. to July 2006) – Original price: $300/month. NEW DISCOUNTED PRICE: $100/month. Hence the total for 6 months will now be $600USD as opposed to the original sum of $1,800USD.

[Please Note: There are no changes to the cost of the two months online course. The fees for this course shall remain the same]

Our Arabic Courses are designed to be easily comprehendible for non-Arabic speaking students from all over the world and are taught under the guidance of highly qualified scholars of the West. For our online lessons, we utilise state-of-the-art web casting to enable our students to become competent in their use of the Arabic Language. Our teaching methods are concise but extensive in their coverage and thus equip students to be able to appreciate and understand texts in their classical Arabic format within months. Our ethical and traditional teaching techniques allow the students to partake and profit from scholarly pursuits such as Qur’anic Tafseer (exegesis), hadith, sirah, fiqh as well as simultaneously acquiring a sound understanding of the Arabic language.

Arabic Classes 2006

Alhamdulillah, over the weekend, we were able to update the course related pages on the website. All start-dates have been adjusted to reflect the 2006 academic year.

The course instructor will be away during the month of January for Hajj. For this reason, all classes will be commencing in February (instead of our normal December-January).

Registration is currently open for three sets of classes:

Weekend Toronto Classes - Starting February 2006; Weekend Arabic ideal for people working full time or going to school .

Six Month Arabic Intensive - February-July 2006; Full-time Arabic course ideal for out-of-towners.

Two Month Arabic Distance Learning Program - Now Registering for February-March 2006 Distance Learning Program.

Our registration process is not complicated at all.

Students planning on traveling to Toronto for the six month intensive can contact us by phone during the last days of January. Local accommodations for them will be arranged at that time.

Info on Level Two Online Arabic Intensive Class

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah,

Just to inform you all that our level two class for the Online Summer Arabic Intensive will be slightly more advanced than was previously planned.

The text that is to be used in the Arabic grammar (Nahw) portion of the course will be Ibn Aqeel's commentary on the One Thousand Couplets in Arabic Grammar by Ibn Malik (Allah be well pleased with both of them).

The instructor will cover both the poetry as well as the commentary at a swift pace. A significant amount of the text will be taught in the two month course (enough for students to get an idea of the writing style). They will be able to complete the text on their own with minimum difficulty, if needed, thus enabling them to finally put Arabic grammar to the side forever. So, they can concentrate on the sacred sciences of Hadith, Tafseer, and Fiqh under qualified traditional scholars locally or abroad.

The timings for the advanced level online course (as mentioned previously) are from midnight EST till 3.00am on Saturdays and Sundays for the full two months of July and August. Click here to register now!

Time changes for Online Summer Arabic Intensive Class (July-August, 2005)

This is a quick update to inform our students that the timings for the Online Summer Arabic Intensive for North American students have been adjusted to 9.00pm EST till 11.30pm EST on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings. This was done to accommodate students who live on the West coast (three hours behind), and also to avoid multiple breaks for prayers, since Maghrib time will have entered before 9.00pm.

If you are interested in learning Arabic online, from the comfort of your home, visit the registration page now. Our teaching methods are such, that in just two short months students will have covered in depth Arabic Grammar (Nahw) and Arabic Morphology (Sarf), which is equivalent to a year at the Madrasa level. All classes are taught live in real-time using a very classic methodology. Screen sharing applications and a chat feature are used to maintain full interaction with the instructor through out the sessions.

For advanced students (those students, for example, with at least a year's previous exposure to Arabic at the university level), advanced classes in Arabic, as well as Fiqh (taught by Mufti Abdur Rahman Ibn Yusuf, author of the Kitab 'Fiqh al-Imam') are being offered on the weekends from 12.00 midnight till 3.00am. This would be ideal for students living in the UK, since it would be early mornings after Fajr on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Eat that which is Halal (lawful)...

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah,

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: "Halal is clear and the Haram (unlawful) is clear. Between the two there are doubtful matters concerning which people do not know. One who avoids them in order to safeguard his deen (religion) and his honour are safe, while if some one indulges in it, he may be indulging in the unlawful...." (Bukhari Additions)

"Forbidden unto you (for food) are: carrion and blood and swine flesh, and that on which hath been invoked the name other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which hath been gored to death, and the devoured of wild beasts, saving that which ye make lawful (by slaughter) and that which hath been immolated to idols and that ye swear by the divining arrows. This is an abomination...." (Chapter V, Verse 3).
